From the Governor, Hong Kong.

STAFF.

Retrospective upgrading of the salary

of Government Pathologist, Medical Department.

1.

In the Estimates for 1949/50 provision has been made for a flat salery of 1900 a month for the post of Government Pathologist, to bring it into line with the other specialist appointments in the Medical Department. The Salaries Commission

recommended that this post should be graded with that of Malariologist and Radiologist on the scale

1360 - 1900, and the salary of Dr. E.F. Duck, who was appointed to the post on 7th November, 1947, was converted on that basis.

2.

It is now considered that the recommendation of the Salaries Commission should be revised and that the salary of the post of Government Pathologist be graded as equal to that of the Government Chemist, Medical Department, viz., 1900 per month, with retrospective effect.

3.

Dr. Duck left the United Kingdom to take up this appointment on 31st October, 1947, and it is recommended that he should be paid on the basis of a salary of $1900 a month with effect from that date.

4.

I should be grateful for your approval of this recommendation, in respect of which the approval of Finance Committee has already been obtained.
